HOW TO SAFELY STORE YOUR FIREARM:

(From the University of Michigan’s Parents’ Guide to Home Firearm Safety)

  1. Ask yourself “Is there a firearm where children play”? “Is there a possibility of someone in crisis or an unauthorized person accessing your firearms?”
  2. If the answer is YES, make sure that all firearms are stored, unloaded, and locked with no access to keys. Ideally, firearms should be stored in a safe with ammunition locked separately.
  3. Safe storage options include:
    • Cable lock
    • Trigger lock
    • Lock box
    • Gun safe
    • Taking the firearm apart
