HOW TO SAFELY STORE YOUR FIREARM:
(From the University of Michigan’s Parents’ Guide to Home Firearm Safety)
- Ask yourself “Is there a firearm where children play”? “Is there a possibility of someone in crisis or an unauthorized person accessing your firearms?”
- If the answer is YES, make sure that all firearms are stored, unloaded, and locked with no access to keys. Ideally, firearms should be stored in a safe with ammunition locked separately.
- Safe storage options include:
- Cable lock
- Trigger lock
- Lock box
- Gun safe
- Taking the firearm apart
